July 2025 Shirlington Dog Park Newsletter

1. Keep your dogs safe during these hot summer days and protect them from heat stroke by limiting the time your dogs are outside and NEVER leave them in a car. Signs of heat stroke include elevated breathing and heart rates, changes to gums, nervousness and confusion. Call your vet at once if they show any of these symptoms. 2. The stream and its banks are NOT part of the dog park and, as posted, can be dangerous to you and your dogs. The stream at any time can carry a variety of toxic pollutants as well as harmful debris even when the water looks clean. In addition, the banks on both sides of the stream are very slippery and unstable.

3. Everyone is required to keep their dogs in sight at all times and to always pick up after them. If you are looking at your phone you won't be able to notice your dog pooping.

4. All dogs entering the dog park are required to have their current rabies vaccine tag displayed along with their license tag. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington will be offering low-cost rabies vaccines and microchipson July 8 and on August 9. You must register in advance. For info:AWLA.org/events
