December 2023 / January 2024 Newsletter

1. There have been reports in parts of the country of dogs coming down with a potentially fatal, mysterious respiratory illness. While there have not been known cases in this area so far, watch for symptoms including fever, cough, lack of appetite, eye or nose discharge, or sneezing and at the first sign of any of these contact your vet and keep your dog isolated. You should also make sure your dogs are up to date on all vaccines including those for known respiratory diseases.

2. Please note that Shirlington Dog Park closes at sunset daily which is now around 4:45 PM.  Everyone and their dogs MUST be out of the park by then. Trespassers will be fined. The closest dog parks that have lights and are open later are Ft. Bernard on S. Walter Reed Dr. and Towers Park on S. Scott St.

3. There is an online interactive map at NoVaDogParks.com showing all dog parks in Northern Virginia including info on them.

4. Make sure to keep your dogs in sight at all times and always pick up after them.  Please follow all the other dog park rules including picking up the poop and to remind others to do so as well.

5. Please consider us in your end of year giving plans.  To make your tax-deductible donation anytime visit: ShirlingtonDogs.org

We want to wish you and your pets a
safe and happy holiday season.
