1. The South Nelson Street pedestrian bridge near the dog park that leads to Shirlington Village will be closed for repairs and painting starting March 4 and through the end of April. Alternative routes to cross over the stream are South Walter Reed Drive, accessible from the north end of the dog park, or Shirlington Road. 2. It is vital that everyone pick up after their dogs. Besides being required by law, dog waste left behind can spread life-threatening parasites to dogs and humans of all ages. Studies have shown that once contaminated poop is allowed to enter the soil, these parasite eggs can survive and infect for months to years to come. Make sure you keep your dogs in sight from the moment you enter the dog park. A majority of the poops not picked up are near the entrance.
