October Shirlington Dog Park Newsletter

1. Temporary fencing will be installed starting Monday, Oct 7, in the dog park from the middle gate area running parallel along the path to the entrance gate closest to S. Walter Reed Dr. The fencing will be in place for at least a week for construction of new boundary fence that will reclaim some area in the far corner of the park. The entrance gates will remain accessible during this time.

2. Please note that Shirlington Dog Park closes at sunset every day.  Everyone and their dogs MUST be out of the park by then. The closest dog park that has lights and is open later is Ft Bernard, which is up the hill on Walter Reed Drive.  See the link on our site for details and a list of other dog parks that are open later: https://shirlingtondogs.org/resources

3. Shirlington Dog Park was again named one of the best dog parks in the region in the October issue of Northern Virginia Magazine. Thanks to our volunteers for all their efforts and to those who help keep the dog park a wonderful place to visit.

4. Paws on the Pike, the annual pet fair, is Saturday, Oct 26, 1-5 PM at Penrose Square, 2501 9th Road South, Arlington. www.columbia-pike.org/pawsonthepike-2024/

5. The Small Dog Area is reserved only for dogs under 25 pounds and those with special needs.

6. Please keep your dogs in sight at all times and always pick up after them.  Be sure to follow this and all the other dog park rules which are posted at each entrance and on the bulletin board.
