April 2025 Shirlington Dog Park Newsletter

1. Aggressive dogs are not permitted in the dog park. An aggressive dog is one that poses a threat to humans or other dogs. If you witness a dog bite, try to gather as much information as possible once everyone is safe. There are bite report forms on the side of the bulletin board as reminders. Contact Animal Control immediately at 703-931-9241 to provide the information. Animal Bite Reports can be filed online as well. You can also contact the Park Rangers at 703-228-0052 or 703-228-7037 to report aggressive dogs in the park.

2. Does your pet have a microchip?  The Animal Welfare League of Arlington will have a table set up in the area outside the main entrance to the dog park on Friday, April 11 from 10 to 11:30 AM to scan your dog's microchip, verify the information and register it for free. They also provide this free service for all your pets at their location anytime they are open. AWLA.org

3. All dogs entering the dog park are required to have their current rabies vaccine tag displayed along with their license tag. AWLA will be offering low-cost rabies vaccines and microchips on April 8 and on May 3. You must register in advance. For info: AWLA.org/events

4. Everyone is required to keep their dogs in sight at all times and to always pick up after them. If you are looking at your phone you won't be able to notice your dog pooping.
